Champions!

The best Wiffle Ball players in the world are crowned in Caldwell (A.P. - Caldwell)
Ron, Joe and Powers, a team that was assembled at the last minute, took home the prize money in this years IYM 2001 Wiffle Ball Tournament.  Check out all the action in the IYM 2001 photo gallery.  We tried to get pics of everyone.  I'm sorry if there is no picture of you.  See how the tournament played out in the teams section.  Thanks to Vin Orrei for not only playing, but umpiring as well as giving play by play on the video.  New career possibly?

Top seeded team ousted in two straight  (A.P. - Caldwell)
The highly touted team of Frank, Rottina and Blue, lost their first two games in the double elimination tournament.  The most surprising fact may be that they didn't even score a run.  Orrei, one of the most powerful home run hitters in wiffle ball history, failed to jack any balls over the roof and his teammates were not much help.  Rottina, normally a solid pitcher, got shelled in the second game as the team continued their hitting woes on the way to an early exit.  Frank and Blue did have a good time down the shore though.

Runners up have nothing to be ashamed about (A.P. - Caldwell)
Mike Finan and Bobby Fallen played a man short and gave it all they had, but came up one game short.  Steve Tice, a very valuable and solid player, had a prior engagement and had to leave early, which left his team short-handed.  Playing a man short, Finan and Fallen stormed their way out of the losers bracket by beating Doug, Marty and Chris (4-1) to set up the rematch and championship game against Ron, Joe and Powers.   In the championship game, they were beaten (5-1), as Finan got touched up for some early runs.  Fallen was unhittable in the championship, retiring every batter that he faced.  Finan and Fallen came in second with two players and one can only think, would it have been the same outcome if Steve Tice was there?
